"Stay Away" on American Idol winner Lee DeWyze's new album "Frames"
I recently wrote and produced the song "Stay Away" on Season 9 American Idol winner Lee DeWyze's new album "Frames". Lee and I wrote the song with Nashville songwriter Shelly Fairchild in Los Angeles, CA. We finished the song in an afternoon and I headed back to my studio, The Lodge, to finish out the track. I ended up playing the banjo, piano, guitars, and did the programming. Thanks to Kobalt and everyone else involved who helped get this song off the ground!

Rick Appears in Billboard Magazine
Recently Rick was mentioned in Billboard magazine in connection with Lee DeWyze's new album. Read the article below!
“American Idol” season winner Lee DeWyze returned to the show last week to debut his new single, “Silver Lining." Following the recent performance, the Illinois-based rocker spoke to Billboard on what he's been up to since the 2012 release of his third post-"Idol" recording, "What Once Was."
DeWyze recently signed with Vanguard Records and said he’s in the process of wrapping-up a new album with collaborations from Jim Scott, Toby Gad, Drew Pearson and Rick Seibold. He tells Billboard he's "currently finishing up" the record with Phil Allen.
“Silver Lining” represents a new musical direction for DeWyze, who appears to be shifting gears from his rock-oriented material towards a folkier sound. “This is the kind of music I’ve been wanting to make for a long time,” says DeWyze, who cites “a difference in ideas” as the reasons for his split from RCA.
“We wanted to make an honest album,” he explains, “and that’s what this is.”
Lee DeWyze Dropped By RCA Records
DeWyze refers to his forthcoming album as “folk story telling anthem pop rock. It’s a new genre.” He explains that his newfound musical direction came together naturally in the studio. ‘We didn’t go in the studio and say, “We’re going to make this kind of album.’ We were like, ‘Let’s just make music. You play the banjo? OK go’.”
The album’s release date is not on the slate, but it should arrive in the next few months, according to DeWyze. It’ll feature a “super awesome surprise” appearance, he teases. “I think it will blow people’s minds when they see who it is. It was an incredible experience working with these gentleman.”
DeWyze insists that although he’ll always stand behind his past releases, he urges fans to look to his next album as the best representation of the sound he’s going for. “If you want to know who Lee DeWyze is as an artist -- this is the record, this is the single, this is what you’re going to get. This is who I am.”

Hey, you with the blue eyes, baby
Have you seen me here before?
You got something they don't have
And I'm liking it more and more
And I try to let it go
But you keep me coming back
And I try not to let it show
Oh, oh, oh
I wanna be the one that you think of when you're driving all alone
And you wish that you can call me on the phone
Just so you can say
Hey, you're my favorite
Hey you're my favorite girl
I don't really fall like this
And never come so easily
But with one look, I'm hooked
And I can't move, baby, now you're all I see
And I try to let it go
But you keep me coming back
Yeah, I try not to let it show
But oh, oh, oh
I wanna be the one that you think of when you're driving all alone
And you wish that you can call me on the phone
Just so you can say
Hey, you're my favorite
Hey, you're my favorite girl
So if I tell you now
Say it all out loud
Will you stick around?
Or will I freak you out?
Oh, please don't run away
Just wanna hear you say
That you feel the same, aye
I am the only one that you think of (I wanna be the one)
When you're driving all alone (driving all alone)
And you always wanna call me on the phone (call me on the phone)
Just so you can say
Hey, you're my favorite
Hey, you're my favorite girl
Hey, you're my favourite girl (I wanna be the one that you think of when you're driving all alone)
And you wish that you can call me on the phone
Just so you can say
Hey, you're my favorite
Hey you're my favorite girl
Hey, you're my favorite girl
Hey, you with the blue eyes, baby
Have you seen me here before?
You got something they don't have
And I'm liking it more and more

Writing, recording
just completely re-wrote a song, from top to bottom, at 3AM. Feeling great about it. It was an old one that I wrote in 20 or 30 minutes anyway, so it needed some editing. The EP is coming along. I’ve almost got the first batch of 5 or so songs done, and I’m in the middle of about 10 more. I’ve got some great artists on some of these songs singing and playing with me, so I can’t wait to share them! After I put these to bed, I’m gonna get to work on a Christmas record. Christmas is my fav fav fav time of year (Besides summer), and I wrote a bunch of cool Holiday tunes last year, so I’m pretty excited about it! I’m hoping I can make a full length Christmas record, mostly of originals, but def a 2 or 3 classics sprinkled in there.
This week has been good, been hard at work. I feel like I’ve finally hit a good rhythm here in Los Angeles. Besides writing and recording for my own record, I’ve been hard at work writing pop tunes with other people around town. Some of these new tunes are BANANAS! I hope they land somewhere.
I didn’t have too much to write tonight, just thought I’d say blog a bit and share some thoughts. i’ll have some new tunes up on myspace in the coming weeks. And I think I’m going to launch a kickstarter campaign to raise some capitol to get the record finished up and sounding spectacular.
Yogurtland is my new obsession, see below.
Recording Tonight
Sitting in the studio, waiting for the computer to decide if it would like to work or not this evening. Its 4:15 in the morning, I hope it makes up its mind quickly. Through fighting with the computer and yelling at the ceiling when its decided it wants to crash, I hit a breakthrough. Tonight was the first time in a long long while that I have been so moved by the music I’m making that it genuinely felt like I was in another place. Like I had morphed to another stratosphere. We’ve all been there. Those moments when we’ve stood at the edge of the ocean and been so overtaken by beauty that our soul feels as if it joins in a symphony with the rest of the planet. Or that moment when we experience our first kiss and it feels like you’ve left the ground. I felt one of those moments tonight. Sometimes as an artist, you have to just create. Sometimes you’re inspired, sometimes you just trust your instincts and it flows out, even when you don’t feel like any brilliance is on the horizon. Tonight was unlike any other night, just trudging along, doing the only thing I know I was born to do. And it fell like lighting to my chest. I think whether we’re artists or not, we all long for those moments when we feel as if we’re partaking in something bigger than ourselves. I think its in our nature. Tonight I had one of those moments and I can’t wait to share the results. Thanks for listening to my thoughts.
Summerfest
Yo what’s up friends. A lot has happened in the past few weeks! I’ve been busy writing and playing shows, which has been a blast. I went out to Summerfest this past weekend to play a couple sets and see some amazing shows…311, Earth Wind Fire, The Bravery, all amazing. Summerfest is the world’s largest Music Festival:
The most mind blowing part of the whole experience had to be when I was backstage loading out after my last set of the day when the Jonas Brothers were coming out right after their set. For the first time in my life I realized what the Beatles must have felt as thousands of estrogen infused tween girls nearly trampled me to get to them. Its quite a sight to see a twelve year old girl scaling a chain link fence, tears in her eyes, professing her unabashed love for Nick Jonas. In all it was such a fun place to play. Thanks to all who came out and watched. I’m heading in the studio this month to track some new stuff. I’ll post it soon :0) Also, head over to www.youtube.com/rickseibold where I’ve been blogging with videos each week!

Summer and CMA Week
To start off, this blog is sponsored by whole foods
supplier of the best gelato west of italy in all the world, of which I have consumed entirely too much already this summer.
The Last few weeks have been awesome… a few shows, a few cookouts, a lot of fun in the sun. I’m getting excited because my next record is beginning to take shape. I’ve got the songs set, I hope to begin tracking in a month or so. I figured out how to you tube stuff with my new mac book pro, so I’m gonna start putting videos up of new songs :0) check it at www.youtube.com/rickseibold. Tennessee is starting to get hot this time of year, which makes me miss the beach. I grew up in Wilmington, NC and lived every summer on Wrightsville Beach. When it got hot, you got in the ocean. In Tennessee when it gets hot, you go inside, which isn’t as much fun. I need friends with swimming pools. If anyone wants to share, let me know. It has been nice to slow down a bit in the last few weeks and spend time with good friends. I’ve been pretty busy the last 6 months or so with the release of my record. My cousin who I haven’t talked to in a couple of years texts me and tells me my picture is in Southwest Airlines Spirit Magazine in and article on Nashville Songwriters, right next to Taylor Swift, Rivers Rutherford, and Hillary Lindsey, which I had no idea about. So if you’re on a flight this month, grab me a copy cause I want to see it :0) I’m guess I’m just rambling on now. Hope you all are well and in good spirit.

"That's the Day" EP spends 12 weeks in iTunes Top 100 charts!
Independent Artist Rick Seibold
Spends 12 Weeks in iTunes Top 100 Charts
New York City, June 1–Recording artist Rick Seibold is proud to announce that as a completely independent artist, his debut album, “That’s the Day,” has spent twelve weeks in theiTunes Top 100 Pop Charts. This puts Seibold’s first record among the top selling independent albums of 2008, reaching as high as 27 on Jan 26th and marking nearly 25,000 units since the beginning of the year. In addition, “That’s the Day” reached as high as 3 in Canada and 18 in the United Kingdom.
Even more impressive is that Seibold accomplished this without a record company. The album’s success came on the back of viral internet sites like Myspace and Facebook, and it is fueled by the enthusiasm of his young fans.“It really comes down to people loving the music and then passing it on to their friends,” Seibold says. “That’s how this whole thing grew so fast.”
Rick’s internet fan base flocked to him for his fun, easy going Jack Johnson or Colbie Caillat-like sound and lyrics inspired by his upbringing on the beaches of Wilmington, NC.More recently he has called Brooklyn, N.Y. and Nashville, Tenn. home as he hones his craft with mood-changing melodies and catchy choruses.
“Rick Seibold presents songs about love, learning and coming of age with a knack for smart and often catchy melodies… it’s sure to make any young female listener swoon,” says Alyssa Rashbaum (MTV, Spin, Vibe).
“You know, I hope my music will be something comfortable for anyone listening to it,” Seibold says.“Whether you’re in the middle of a New York City blizzard or a Seattle rain, I hope you can put on my record and it’ll make you feel like summer time.”

I never lived the dream of the prom kings, or the drama queens...
This weekend was kind of crazy. I went to Philly to hang out with a few friends, and play a few tunes at a high school for Pennsbury’s Senior Prom. Its been a few years since I’ve been to prom, and the thing is, this is no ordinary Prom. Readers Digest has dubbed it the nation’s best prom, having hosted a few other notable bands including Maroon 5 and John Mayer in the past. Everything about this thing is extravagant. No one arrives to this prom in just a limo. Instead, for months kids prepare Rose Bowl Parade like floats to arrive at the red carpet with their prom date. Because this years Prom theme was TV, many of the floats were based around TV shows…Here is “That 70’s Show”:
Mash:
Rug Rats:
This one was my favorite, Dumb & Dumber…
One of the amazing things about this prom is that the entire school is transformed into the theme of the prom by covering the entire school with these giant murals…here are a few:
